Garden centers and plant nurseries sell annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, vegetables and houseplants, along with soil, mulch, fertilizer, pots and tools. Independent nurseries often grow part of their own stock and carry varieties that do well in the local climate, while big-box garden departments compete on price for common plants. Wholesale nurseries and growers sell to landscapers and sometimes to the public at volume prices; tree nurseries sell balled-and-burlapped and container trees and can deliver and plant large specimens. Specialty growers focus on bonsai, cactus and succulents, orchids or native plants, and hydroponics stores sell lights, nutrients and systems for growing indoors.

I do really love this place, and I try to support smaller chains over massive corporations like Home Depot and Lowe's. I'm a HUGE plant collector, and have bought a bunch of plants here, many I've had for years. They have good quality plants, and knowledgeable staff. While I'd love to give them 5 stars, they have a wonky return policy that isn't written anywhere or disclosed at the time of purchase. I recently bought a hydrangea, that lasted all of two weeks, and I did EVERYTHING I could to keep her happy. They cost about $35, which isn't much, but I brought it back for advice and to possibly exchange it for something more durable. The cashier asked me a few questions, and confirmed I didn't really do anything wrong, and essentially said they were just dramatic plants. When I asked if I could return it, he said this store had a policy about not issuing refunds or store credit specifically for hydrangeas because of their failure rate. I asked why this wasn't disclosed at purchase, and he just shrugged. I went on to spend another $150 on new plants, but I left questioning my loyalty to this store, and will likely look to other nurseries in the future.

This location is totally worth the drive for me to make. The plants are great, but the staff are what makes it worthwhile. The kindness the knowledge, and the courteousness of each staff member combined with their love/passion for plants is evident in every customer transaction. Shout out to Natalia!!!

Armstrongs lifetime guarantee and 90 day return/exchange policy are a lie. I purchase several trees and shrubs, 1500-2000 worth of greenery, and felt confident in paying the higher prices because the store so confidently presented their lifetime guarantee. We planted in February and saw everything bloom beautifully through April-May, save one tree. When we emailed about exchanging or returning the tree - we were gaslit…told nothing was wrong with the tree. I came to the nursery to speak to the manager and found another same species tree similarly withering away on site - I understood that my tree and this one must be from the same source and once again requested to speak with a manager. This time - a different manager - told me I must wait until August when temperature will be high enough to ascertain whether the tree is a complete failure. If this is the case, why is everything else doing wonderfully in the spring/summer sunshine? Do not pay higher prices at Armstrong under the guise of superior customer service. Your purchase is not guaranteed whatsoever

I've driven by this place so many times but never went in and boy have I been missing out! Armstrong Garden Center has sooo many variety of plants! Herbs, flowers, trees, bushes, everything! The employees are super helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable! Definitely will be coming back in the springtime for more plants!

Recently, I brought my beautiful schefflera plant to Armstrong in Sherman Oaks, seeking help for some black leaves. Unfortunately, after following their expert advice to change the soil and pot, which they did it very carelessly, my plant has drastically deteriorated. After many research and talking to other experts to see why it happened to my plant, it is very obvious that they chose a wrong soil for my plant and my plant really didn’t need new pot! Despite reaching out to them, I was told they have no responsibility for the outcome. I am truly disappointed as I care deeply for my plant and expected better guidance from them. I wish it was an option for no star! Before and after photos are attached.
